DEPARTMENT “H” – HOME CRAFTING

RULES AND REGULATIONS (CAKES AND PIES)

STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY –

ALL EXHIBITS ENTERED AT OWNER’S RISK

1.     All entries must be pre-registered by August 12, 2008.  Entries will be accepted between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2008.  Cake and pie entries will be accepted between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 22, 2008THIS APPLIES TO CAKES AND PIES ONLY.

2.     Each exhibitor will be limited to one (1) entry in each class.

3.     Cakes must be made from scratch.

4.     Pie fillings must be made from scratch.  Pie crusts can be either from scratch or purchased.

5.     Judging will be based on flavor, texture, and appearance.

6.     Items should be placed on cardboard or paper plates and covered with cellophane or clear plastic wrap.

7.     Two (2) copies of the recipe must accompany each entry.  (Use 3 x 5 cards.)

8.     All cake and pie entries become the property of The Great Pocomoke Fair and will be kept in a refrigerated display for auction on Saturday, August 23, 2008 for the benefit of The Great Pocomoke Fair.

RULES AND REGULATIONS (FOOD PRESERVATION)

1.     All entries must be pre-registered by August 12, 2008.  Entries will be accepted between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Wednesday August 20, 2008.

2.     All entries must be entered in the name of the canner and will be limited to one (1) entry in each class.

3.     Entries must be prepared using clear standard quart and pint canning jars.  Jellies, jams and preserves may be in half-pint jars.  Commercially canned food jars, such a peanut butter or mayonnaise jars will be disqualified.

4.     Entries must be labeled with the name of the contents and dated with the month and year.  Entries must be prepared during the current Fair year.  (The name of the canner must not appear on the label.)

5.     Judges reserve the right to open canned products if necessary to make the best decisions.

6.     All canning should be done in accordance with the following publications available at the Worcester County Cooperative Extension Office (410-632-1972):  Home Canning of Fruits and Vegetables – USDA Publication; How to Make Jellies, Jams, and Preserves at Home – USDA Publication.

7.     All Best Collections of three (3) entries must be presented attractively in a container, basket, etc.

8.     Entries and ribbons cannot be picked up until after 4:00 p.m. Saturday, August 23, 2008.

5.     Bottoms and backs of articles should be finished, no felt glued on.

2.     Each entry shall contain a minimum of three (3) blooms.

3.     Each exhibitor will be limited to one (1) entry in each class.

4.     Exhibitors are asked to read and to observe the rules governing this competition by assigning articles to their correct classes when entering.

5.     Exhibitor must provide their own container of clear glass (soda bottle acceptable) with appropriate size to specimen.

6.     Specimens shall have no foliage below the water line.

7.     Specimens with evidence of insect damage or disease will not be accepted for competition.

8.     Entries with no competition will be awarded a ribbon only if judged worthy.

9.     Entries and ribbons cannot be picked up until after 4:00 p.m. Saturday, August 23, 2008.

RULES AND REGULATIONS (PHOTOGRAPHY)

1.     All entries must be pre-registered by August 12, 2008.  Entries will be accepted between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Wednesday August 20, 2008.

2.     Each exhibitor will be limited to one (1) entry in each class.

3.     All photos should be mounted on mat board or illustration board using spray adhesive, heat seal, or other permanent mounting medium.

4.     Photos may be mounted horizontally or vertically.  All photos must be a minimum of 5” x 7” and not larger than 11” x 14”.

5.     Attach (with paper clip) a white 3 x 5 card to the lower right corner containing the following information:

a.     Title of picture

b.     Date picture was taken

c.     Name of camera

d.     Kind of film used

6.     No lettering/labeling is permitted on the front of mounting or picture.  Name and address must be written on the back of the mount.

7.     Entries with no competition will be awarded a ribbon only if judged worthy.

8.     Entries and ribbons cannot be picked up until after 4:00 p.m. Saturday, August 23, 2008.
